Northwest baseball history has its own unique flavor.
Our National Game dates back to the 1860s in the Pacific Northwest, with 1890 marking the first year of professional baseball in the region. The Pacific Northwest League of 1890 to 1892 consisted of franchises in Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane and Portland. Deadball stars Clark Griffith (Tacoma) and Big Bill Lange (Seattle) both passed through this Wild-West league, tucked up in the Northwest corner of the country.
This marked the beginning of 120 years of nearly continuous high caliber professional baseball in the region, which includes the glory era of the Pacific Coast League, the hapless Seattle Pilots, and the modern day Seattle Mariners.
One expression of Northwest baseball lore is found in images of its players, teams and ballparks. We hope that you enjoy the sampling in this gallery. Please check back often for additions.
