The 21st century version of the Houston Babies Base Ball Club had their resurrection opener on March 8, 2008, losing at Lone Star College Field to the Montgomery County Saw Dogs by a tally of 9-6. Sponsored by the Larry Dierker Chapter, the roster is loosely filled with SABR and non-SABR enthusiasts and cranks of the 19th century game – and named in appreciative honor of the first professional base ball club in our geographic area, the 1888 Houston Babies. Bob Dorrill and Bill McCurdy of SABR serve as manager and general manager of the Houston Babies. Dorrill took the reins as field general after the Babies lost their first three games playing by committee. Under Bob Dorrill’s tenure, the Babies have rampaged to four straight wins, putting the club over the .500 mark for the first time since 1888 – and leaving Bob Dorrill alone and lonely at the top as the only undefeated manager in base ball or baseball that we know of! The total record of the new Houston Babies in all games played from March 1, 2008 through February 21, 2009 is as follows:
