Tuesday evening 25 SABR members and friends met at our new location, Molly's Pub, for an night of talking baseball.
The new facility provided an excellent gathering place with a varied menu and great service. Thanks to SABR member Larry Miggins for the recommendation.

We welcomed new members Mike McCrosley and Justin Haywood and were happy to see long time members Richard Brinlee and Marsha Franty. Guests included Robert Beck and Fran Zeismer.

Bob Dorrill reported on the recent success of our Vintage Baseball Team the Houston Babies and discussed the request for a chapter representative to write up a biography on Ed Stevens, a local resident who, while a member of the 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers, was asked to step aside and be replaced at first base by Jackie Robinson. Bob also announced the chapter is in the preliminary stages of developing our very own SABR web page.

The first presentation of the night was made by Matt Rejmaniak who talked about his recent trip to Arizona to visit the spring training complexes of the Dodgers, White Sox and Athletics. He brought back programs and photographs which he shared with members.

Our featured speaker was Fox Sports Broadcaster and fellow SABR member Greg Lucas who did a masterful job in leading the group through a variety of subjects including his analysis of the 2009 Astros, evaluating spring training performance, the World Baseball Classic and the steriod area.

It should be noted that while the Astros were 1-11-1 so far this spring, the 1983 club went 3-16 in spring training and yet finished the year with 85 wins. In 1986 the team went 9-18-1 in Florida and but still won the NL West.

Next we enjoyed a trivia contest developed by Matt and Dick Rejmaniak. Greg Lucas had the most correct answers followed by Harold Jones and Mike McCroskey third. As per tradition, the winner is to develop the next contest.

We are now working on a pregame meeting scheduled for Saturday April 18th at Minute Maid Park when the locals will take on the Cincinnati Reds at 6 p.m.. Details will be furnished shortly but please place this date on your calendars. We will be able to offer discounted tickets.
