The Glory of the 1966 Orioles and Baltimore
Written by Mark Millikin
Publication Date: Nov. 2006

This book recounts how Frank Robinson led the Baltimore Orioles to their first AL pennant and a World Series win over the heavily favored Los Angeles Dodgers. For the first time, readers will gain a good understanding of how the Orioles 1966 season affected their fans, beginning with Frank's arrival at the Orioles spring training camp in Miami--the "Frank Robinson watch" began. Pennant fever was sparked early by the Orioles fast start in April and fans reacted in various ways. Team chemistry on the Orioles was an important contributor to the Orioles' success, led by Frank, Moe Drabowsky and Boog Powell. Fans reacted in various ways to the Orioles' pennant clinching and preparation for the World Series. The "bugle call" and the fans' response with "CHARGE" started that year, DJ Bob Callahan stayed up 66 hours straight, and there was plenty more in the way of fan reactions. The town exploded in joy with the Orioles' World Series triumph. Interviews with former players, writers, fans, and info from the Sun, News American, Baltimore Afro-American, TSN, Cincinnati papers (on the Frank Robinson trade) and LA papers (on the World Series) bolster this re-telling of the Orioles' 1966 season.
