Have you longed to talk baseball with other SABR members, but felt squeamish about making the trek into Northern Virginia? (It’s OK; you probably also felt this way when MLB was pondering just where to relocate the Expos.) Well, fear no more! We’re starting a second Hot Stove group for folks who live north of the Potomac River. The details: When: Third TUESDAY of the month (including NEXT TUESDAY, Feb. 15) Time: 6:30 p.m. Site: Babes Sports Bar & Grill, 1115 East-West Hwy. between Colesville Rd. and Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring Certain attributes… Babes (we don’t need no stinking apostrophes!) has parking. It’s about a third of a mile walking distance from the Silver Spring station on Metro’s Red Line. It’s close to major transit routes and commuting corridors, including East-West Hwy. (MD-410), Georgia Ave. (MD-97), Colesville Rd. (U.S. 29), and 16th St. (MD-390). Since some people can NEVER make Wednesday Hot Stove gatherings, a different day of the week is offered. Babes features a full lineup of menu choices, including appetizers, sandwiches, “dawgs,” burgers, entrees and desserts. It also has HD TVs, free wi-fi, 10 pool tables, plus ping-pong and darts. Oh, and $9.95 pitchers of beer during a Happy Hour that lasts until 8 p.m. And the best selling point? Us. Babes opened mere weeks ago, so we’ll add a little class to the joint.
